Background

A SaaS clinical trial management solution that integrated United Health Groups extensive patient data allowing for better patient recruitment and site performance. Developed by Optum (formerly called Ingenix) a wholly-owned subsidiary of UnitedHealth Group using Adobe enterprise products. During our time with the product, we developed 4 major and 8 minor releases. I started working on this project in mid-2010, one year after the product’s launch in 2009. We worked in an agile environment adding features and updates to the overall product.
In particular to:
  • The CRF, Case Report Form creation, and management.
  • Designed from scratch a more robust query management solution.
  • A template configuration (CRF Bundle with timeline and visit data included) for a subject’s clinical trial.

Audience

The audience for i3Cube has 2 main categories: Customers and Staff. Within these two groups, there are several roles with different views and access to data depending on their activities. Our screens and work focused on the users colored in orange text.
For example:
  • The Study Coordinator has an overview of the subjects (patients), visits, and CRF status.
  • The Project Manager has a broader view he can filter by region or country has access to data in the recruitment process and during the trial.

Query Management

The wireframes presented focus on the section related to query management.
The three users (Study Coordinator, RA and PM) that focus on managing queries have different work flows and key screens based on their activities.

What is query management?

Where data entered does not pass validation rules then a data query may be issued to the investigative site where the clinical trial is conducted to request clarification of the entry. For electronic CRFs only the site staff with appropriate access may modify data entries.
